CEPF General Assembly gave a vote of confidence to Christer Segersteen

Christer Segerstéen, the newly re-elected president called the CEPF General Assembly 2010 to contribute to the continuous and positive development of the European family forestry heritage. A broad representation of forest owners from 22 countries attended this year’s meeting. Participants noted the significant growth of political interest in forestry on both the European Union as well as on the global level. This encourages even stronger efforts in order to make the forest owners voice heard.

The General Assembly, held on 4th of May, unanimously re-elected Mr. Christer Segerstéen as the CEPF president for the next two years. Also the new CEPF Board took shape. It comprises representatives from 10 countries. The newly re-elected President called the CEPF members for further contribution to the growth and use of European forests in a sustainable way. This year’s meeting was kindly hosted by the Association of Municipal and Private Forests Owners (SVOL) in the Czech Republic.

Mr. Jakub Šebsta, minister of agriculture of Czech Republic, addressed the General Assembly.

Mr. Jakub Šebsta, minister of agriculture of Czech Republic, addressed the General Assembly. Mr. Šebsta noted the role of CEPF in promoting the sustainable use of European forests. The minister also highlighted the importance of forest owners’ contribution in shaping the policy.

The meeting reflected back on recent CEPF achievements. Four major policy areas have been given attention through the year. These include debates on a European policy instrument for forests, progress in the negotiation on climate change and biodiversity protection as well as transition into a new green economy. Achievements and challenges in rural development, timber trade and procurement as well as a number of other policy areas were also discussed. The CEPF Work Program for 2010 – 2011 was presented for the General Assembly.

In addition, CEPF has gained a new member from southwest Europe. The General Assembly approved an application of newly established Iberian Forestry Confederation (CONFI) as an associated member.

The General Assembly reviewed the CEPF Annual Report 2010, which will be soon available at our homepage.
