CEPF Wood Mobilization Action Plan
The rise of Energy policy in the EU leads to a higher demand for wood resources. But there is potential in Europe’s forests…
Forest cooperatives are one of the main actors in enabling to increase
efficient wood mobilization by organizing technically and economically
wood harvesting. This organization work is carried out by forest
cooperatives while respecting sustainable forest management
Forest cooperatives really wish to contribute to increase wood
mobilization in Europe and to reach the European objectives in terms of
renewable energies. They have an essential role to play in wood
mobilization at the European level
European family forest owners offer the following:
• Sustainable forest management and sustainable raw material
• Increased sustainable cutting up to 150 mill. m3 per year
• Improved silviculture, increase the annual growth with 25%
• Increased afforestation of unused land or agricultural land
• Advice and information channel to the individual forest owner
• Co-operation (to increase efficiency and profitability of forestry)
The key drivers in this offer are
• Mobilization of forest owners’ income
• Demand driven from the markets
• Respects the ownership rights, i.e. voluntary cooperation
In order to achieve this, CEPF has drafted a Wood Mobilization Action
Plan with concrete proposals to increase wood mobilization in Europe.
The three main measures in this Action Plan are:
1. An exploratory study on forest cooperatives in Europe and their potentials
2. European action plan based on cooperatives experience
3. Organize the first European forest owners cooperatives seminar, in France from 25-27 September 2008.
