The Forests Dialogue: Investing in locally controlled forestry

1-4 December 2009, Skopje/Ohrid, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYRM)

Organiser: TFD, GFP, CEPF

The Forests Dialogue (TFD) and the Catalytic Group of the Growing Forests Partnership organize the Third Field Dialogue on Investing in Locally Controlled Forestry (ILCF). The meeting will take place from 1st to 4th December in Ohrid, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM).

The ILCF promotes a better understanding of the opportunities and challenges on investment flows for indigenous people, the owners and managers of family and community forests. On the long term the dialogue will ensure that investments are channeled to address the concerns of forest dependent peoples: capacity building, governance, the recognition of rights and finance. These in turn support and highlight the positive outcomes of managing forests locally. The meeting will build relationships between the three right holder groups involved in locally controlled forestry. This will also help to shape the right holder contribution in the global discussion on climate change, to be held in Copenhagen and beyond.

The dialogue aims to identify the factors which have successfully contributed to mobilizing the under-used forest resources in small and family forestry in Macedonia and community forestry in Albania, as well as the obstacles impending other such successes. The program comprises two days field session and two days of discussion.

CEPF is the on-the ground host partner for the dialogue.
