In 2018 the European Commission will publish voluntary guidelines for cascading use of biomass. However, in the context of forest-related EU policies such as the recast of the Renewable Energy Directive (REDII), there have been attempts to indirectly include the principle of cascading use of forest biomass into EU legislation. The purpose of this event is to learn more about the cascading use principle and to discuss the consequences that regulating it could have on reaching EU’s climate and energy targets, innovations, raw material markets and industries. The event brings together speakers from many different viewpoints, such as the European Parliament, Commission, scientists and NGOs, for a lively and constructive discussion.
