23 - 24 May 2019, Brussels, Belgium
Organiser: European Commission, Directorate-General for Environment
The Conference will start with a high-level political session in the afternoon of 23 May in the Solvay Library in Brussels. Commissioner Karmenu Vella will be joined by other prominent speakers to take stock of progress towards the EU nature and biodiversity objectives and launch the public consultation for the final evaluation of the EU Biodiversity Strategy. This will also be an opportunity to reflect on lessons learned, as well as on future challenges.
After this high-level session, the 40th Anniversary of the EU Birds Directive will be celebrated with a dinner reception.
The second day, a series of technical discussions with stakeholders will take place on the evaluation of the EU biodiversity strategy to 2020, and on potential EU contributions to the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. This event will take place in the building of the Committee of the Regions.
