Forest owners reject Commission’s proposals to create a common seed law

The Commission is currently reviewing EU legislation on the marketing of seed and plant propagating material consisting of 12 basic acts. The plan is to create a common seed law, including the Council Directive 1999/105/EC on the marketing of Forest Reproductive Material (FRM). The draft Regulation together with a new 'Official Controls Regulation' has been adopted by the Commission on 6 May 2013.

European forest owners family steadily growing

The 2013 CEPF General Assembly (GA) welcomed Croatia as a new CEPF member, as well as Norway and Switzerland to become ordinary members. The terms of Algis Gaizutis (LT), Juha Marttila (FIN), Josef Barton-Dobenin (CZ) and Felix Montecuccoli (AUT) were prolonged for another 2 years period in the CEPF Board. Furthermore, Juha Marttila (FIN), Philipp zu Guttenberg (DE) and Olivier Bertrand (FR) were officially nominated as CEPF Vice-Presidents.

New map on forest ownership structures in Europe available

The European Forest Institute (EFI) has published a detailed report with a new map illustrating the private forest ownership in Europe. Besides the visualization of the spatial ownership distribution, the report provides information on the availability of geo-referenced maps on forest properties throughout Europe.

CEPF together with UNECE/FAO promotes the this years European Forest Week at UNFF

On 10 April, CEPF hosted a side-event at the 10th session of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFFF) in Istanbul, Turkey. The event was organized in close cooperation with the UNECE/FAO to promote the upcoming European Forest Week (9-13 December 2013) and in particular the METSÄ 2013-event in Rovaniemi, Finland.
