The deadline for submitting applications to Natura 2000 award 2018 is the 29 September 2017. The winners will be announced at a high level ceremony in Brussels in May 2018.
Any entity involved in activities related to Natura 2000 can apply to one of the five Award categories: communication, socio-economic benefits, conservation, reconciling interests/perceptions and cross-border cooperation and networking. In addition, the high-profile “EU Citizens’ Award” goes to the application receiving the highest number of nominations through a public vote on the Award website.
CEPF sees an opportunity in this award to show the key role of forest owners for a successful implementation and the sustainable management of Natura 2000 sites and therefore would like to encourage our network to apply for the award. The fact that our forests have been included in the Natura 2000 network is the result of a long tradition in managing private forests in a responsible and sustainable manner. Forests play an important role in the Natura 2000 network, with almost 50% of the network being covered by forest ecosystems and almost one quarter of the EU’s forests being covered by the Natura 2000 network.
In 2014, the European Commission launched the annual European Natura 2000 Award. The award is dedicated to rewarding excellence in the management and promotion of the network and to raising awareness about Natura 2000 and its benefits to European citizens. It also contributes to the fourth priority area of the Commission’s recently adopted Action Plan to improve the protection of nature and biodiversity in the EU, for the benefit of its citizens and the economy.
More information on how to apply, and relevant documents are available at the Commission’s website.
