ENVI Committee supports the use of bio-based packaging
The Environment Committee of the European Parliament recognized the opportunity of the bioeconomy and of using biobased products in its vote of 23 January on the Circular Economy Package.
31.01.2017

By amending article 4 of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive (94/62/EC) with new provisions on supporting bio-based packaging, the Environment Committee takes a step in the right direction for supporting the transition to a truly circular economy. CEPF has lobbied on the ongoing revision of the Directive jointly with other stakeholders, specifically for the support of the Parliament for promoting the use of biobased products.

From the European Commission side, on 26 January a REPORT on the implementation of the Circular Economy Action Plan was published. In addition to the report, in order to showcase the key deliverables achieved so far and to debate future deliverables with stakeholders, the Commission and the European Economic and Social Committee are organising a Circular Economy Stakeholder Conference on 9-10 March 2017 in Brussels. On this occasion the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform will be announced.

Please find the Agenda of the Circular Economy conference on Commission’s website.
