The programme reveals that Slovenia will give particular attention to the new EU Forest Strategy and on the basis of the new strategy it will intensify the debate on integrated forest management, emphasising the importance of sustainable and multi-purpose forest management.

Slovenia will also start the negotiations on the “Fit for 55” legislative package which includes updates on forest-related files such as Regulation on Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF), Renewable Energy Directive (RED) and EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).

In the context of forestry and forest-related EU policies, the Presidency will aim at strengthening the role of forests and forestry in preserving and developing rural areas and promoting a circular economy, replacing fossil and energy-intensive materials with wood, and to advocate multifunctional and sustainable forest management, including in the context of forest biodiversity preservation.
