Expansion of forest resources
France has got a great diversity of landscapes and just as many types of forests. Natural deciduous and coniferous forests in the low mountain areas and lowlands, Mediterranean and Alpine forest areas, and plantation forests testify to a distinctive forestry culture. The wooded area is increasing annually by around 1%. This provides Western Europe with the basis for a sustainable supply of timber as a renewable raw material.

Fransylva is the French Federation of forest owners. It represents and defends forest owners and private forests with the French and European governments, partners in the forestry and wood sector and non-governmental organizations involved in the forestry and wood sector.
Fransylva informs forest owners about political, legal and economic issues so that they can manage their forest in a sustainable way.
Fransylva is comprised of 15 regional structures, 73 departmental or interdepartmental trade unions, 45,000 members and 2 million hectares (1/5th of the area of private forests). Departmental unions promote foresters' activity. They represent them before local public authorities and relay the Federation's actions.
