EU Nature and Forest Directors’ meetings under the Danish Pesidency

EU Nature and Forest Directors met in Copenhagen under the Danish Presidency to discuss nature restoration, coexistence with large carnivores, forest biodiversity, and afforestation. Field visits showcased Denmark’s Agreement on a Green Denmark and contributions to the EU’s 3 billion trees objective. CEPF took part in both meetings.

Parliament Committees Reject Forest Monitoring Proposal

The ENVI and AGRI Committees voted on 23 September to reject the Commission’s proposal for an EU forest monitoring framework; the file now moves to Plenary.

European forest owners welcome the rejection of a proposal for regulation on a monitoring framework for resilient European forests by a large majority of members of the Agriculture and Environment Committees of the European Parliament. This sends a clear message that the concerns voiced by European forest owners over the last two years have been heard.

The Confederation of European Forest Owners (CEPF) supports a stronger EU approach to climate resilience—one that focuses on practical action, sustainable investment, and adaptive forest management to safeguard forests and the communities that depend on them.

EU Council sets out position on forest monitoring framework

On 24 June 2025, the EU Council adopted its General Approach to the proposed forest monitoring framework, emphasising importance of a bottom-up approach national data, and the need for simplification and respect of subsidiarity principle.

Forest and Nature Directors’ meetings under the Polish Presidency

The Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU organised a meeting for EU Forest Directors and one for EU Nature Directors, in Warsaw. CEPF representatives took part in both meetings.
