Managed forests, lower wildfire risks - Turning proven knowledge into operational practices

Wildfire risks are rising across Europe. CEPF position paper calls for a unified yet flexible EU approach built on active Sustainable Forest Management. By reducing fuel loads, strengthening forest-based bioeconomy, aligning policies, and enhancing preparedness and coordination, Europe can turn proven knowledge into real action on the ground and build landscapes that are more resilient to wildfire.

European forest owners and managers statement on the review of the EU Forest Strategy for 2030

As the work of the European Commission (EC) on the review of the EU Forest Strategy for 2030 (EUFS) is in progress, and ahead of the joint meeting organised by the EC on 10 December on this topic, the undersigned organisations, representing European forest owners and managers, would like to call for the review process to go beyond assessing progress towards objectives set in the past. It needs also to assess present relevance and usefulness of actions not yet implemented, and whether further actions are needed to maintain multifunctional and climate-resilient forests through sustainable and active forest management.

EU Nature and Forest Directors’ meetings under the Danish Pesidency

EU Nature and Forest Directors met in Copenhagen under the Danish Presidency to discuss nature restoration, coexistence with large carnivores, forest biodiversity, and afforestation. Field visits showcased Denmark’s Agreement on a Green Denmark and contributions to the EU’s 3 billion trees objective. CEPF took part in both meetings.

No room for doubt: European Parliament ComAGRI and ComENVI reject the EC proposal on forest monitoring

European forest owners welcome the rejection of a proposal for regulation on a monitoring framework for resilient European forests by a large majority of members of the Agriculture and Environment Committees of the European Parliament. This sends a clear message that the concerns voiced by European forest owners over the last two years have been heard.
