EP Hearing on EU Forest Monitoring: Experts call for clarifications and simplification

On 13 January 2025, the Environment and Agriculture Committees of the European Parliament held a joint public Hearing to discuss the European Commission's proposal on forest monitoring, titled “Forest Monitoring for resilient European Forests”. The panelists presented their views on the initiative and discussed current state and future strategies for monitoring Europe’s forests in the relation to the European Commission’s proposal.

EP Hearing on EU Forest Monitoring: Do not build a treehouse before growing the tree

The Environment and Agriculture Committees of the European Parliament held today a joint Public Hearing on “Forest Monitoring for resilient European Forests”. Adoption of new start dates for EU Deforestation Regulation’s implementation

The EU deforestation regulation (EUDR) start dates’ postponement is officially approved. The one-year delay will allow more time to prepare for the implementation of new due diligence requirements. The regulation will now be signed and published in the EU's Official Journal, so that it can enter into force before the end of 2024.

Joint Statement | EUDR postponement and new commitments from European Commission to reduce administrative requirements in response to sector concerns

European primary producers and various industries welcome that the EU institutions agreed on securing a one-year postponement for the implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Furthermore, European primary producers and various industries acknowledge the European Commission’s commitments to provide further clarification.

CEPF statement ahead of EP vote on EUDR

The adoption of the proposal for an amending Regulation is essential to give additional time to prepare the implementation so and to establish a secure, effective and predictable framework. We trust that the EU Institutions will make the right decisions to provide additional time and to create conditions that support a practical and streamlined enforcement of the Regulation, especially for those who have been practicing sustainable forest management for generations.
