The Council adopted on 29 June its Recommendation on integrated wildfire risk management. While the Recommendation is not legally binding, Member States are invited to implement the measures, in accordance with their national circumstances, risk profiles, and governance systems.

Forest sector stakeholders discuss resilient forests and value chains for Europe’s future

On 25 June 2025, forest sector representatives gathered at the European Forestry House in Brussels for a roundtable on Forests and Forest Value Chains for Europe’s Future. Organised by the Confederation of European Forest Owners (CEPF), the European State Forest Association (EUSTAFOR), the Union of European Foresters (UEF) and the European Federation of Community Forests (FECOF), the event brought together policymakers, practitioners and stakeholders to examine how Europe's forests can remain resilient in the face of growing environmental and climate challenges.

EU Nature and Forest Directors’ meetings under the Cypriot Presidency

EU Nature and Forest Directors met in Paphos at the invitation of the Cypriot Presidency to discuss the implementation of the Nature Restoration Law, and climate change challenges for forest ecosystems, . Field visits showcased the Natura 2000 site of Ayios Georgios islet and Cedar Valley's fire prevention. CEPF representatives took part in both meetings.

EU publishes its first integrated wildfire risk management strategy

The European Commission has published its first integrated wildfire risk management strategy, covering prevention, preparedness, response and recovery. Key actions include continued CAP support for active forest management, a strengthened EFFIS monitoring system, and a new Council Recommendation. CEPF welcomes the recognition of active forest management as essential.

Managed forests, lower wildfire risks - Turning proven knowledge into operational practices

Wildfire risks are rising across Europe. CEPF position paper calls for a unified yet flexible EU approach built on active Sustainable Forest Management. By reducing fuel loads, strengthening forest-based bioeconomy, aligning policies, and enhancing preparedness and coordination, Europe can turn proven knowledge into real action on the ground and build landscapes that are more resilient to wildfire.
