From practise to policy
EU has no legal competence in forestry policy and hence there is no common EU forest policy. Given the fact that forest ecosystems, their management and the forest-based industry varies so significantly across Europe, forest policy is a Member State competence.
However, a broad and increasing number of sectorial policies directly affect the European forest owners, for example environment, climate, energy, agriculture and trade. These sectorial EU policies are often inconsistent or even contradicting and can impact the sustainability and competitiveness of the forest sector.
CEPF aims to foster reliable and fair political framework conditions and strengthen the position of European forest owners in all forest sector relevant policy processes. Serving as a bridge, CEPF enables private forest owners from local and national levels to voice their concerns and feed their knowledge into international debates.
