Following the adoption of the EU Integrated Wildfire Risks Strategy by the European Commission in late March 2026 and alongside growing dreadful news with regards to the start of the wildfire seasons 2026, CEPF had the opportunity invited to take to several events discussing the next steps.

2 June – Documentary and panel discussion on prevention of wildfire fire risks 

The first projection of the documentary: “Fuel the solution, not the fire”, realised by Bioenergy Europe, was hosted by MEP Sakis Arnaoutoglou (S&D, GR) in the European Parliament on 2 June 2026. 

Following the screening and a specific presentation by Jérémie Gelen (Bioenergy Europe) on the necessity of active management reduce fire risk, a panel discussion was organised. Moderated by Irene di Padua (Bioenergy Europe), the discussion allowed to MEP Sakis Arnaoutoglou, Hélène Koch (CEPF), and Josep Milà (EUSTAFOR) to exchange and reflected with the Greek representatives in the room. 

The event highlighted the importance of sustainable local value chains to incentive active sustainable management that allows for prevention measures to be carried out.

5 June - EESC Expert Hearing

On 5 June, CEPF took part in the EESC Expert Hearing on “Integrated Wildfire Risk Management”. This event was hosted as part of the drafting process of the EESC opinion on the EC communication on wildfires. The rapporteur for the opinion is Luis Mira, and the President of the study group is Veselin Mitov. 

25 June – Joint roundtable on “Resilient forests and forest-value chain for Europe’s future”

CEPF co-organised with Eustafor, UEF, and FECOF a joint roundtable event: “Resilient forests and forest-value chain for Europe’s future”. 

The event brought together policymakers, forest managers, industry representatives, researchers, and bioeconomy stakeholders to discuss how European forests can become more resilient to climate change and how this resilience can support and be supported by sustainable forest-based value chains and the wider bioeconomy. The occasion provided for an opportunity to discuss the Integrated Wildfire Risks Strategy with representative of the European Commission.

26 June - CoR stakeholders' consultation

On 26 June, CEPF took part in the Committee of the Regions’ (CoR) Stakeholders' consultation on the Integrated Wildfire Risk Management. This event was hosted as part of drafting process of the CoR opinion and is led by rapporteur, Mr Dimitrios Kafantaris (EL/EPP).
