Storm Eowyn, which struck Ireland on 24 January 2025 with unprecedented wind speeds, has caused extensive damage across the country’s forests. To support knowledge exchange and recovery efforts, the next Forest Restoration Talks webinar—organised with the European Integrate Network, TRANSFORMIT and FoRISK—will focus on the impacts of the storm and wider lessons from major forest disturbances in Europe.
Experts, policymakers and an affected forest owner will discuss immediate and long-term ecological and economic impacts, approaches to recovery, and pathways to strengthen climate resilience.
Key topics:
- Preparing forests for future disturbances
- Adapting management for climate resilience
- Early findings on storm damage across regions
- Recovery strategies: salvage logging, replanting and biodiversity protection
- Policy and funding support at national and EU levels
