On 2 July 2025, the European Commission proposed an amendment to the EU Climate Law. The proposal aims to set an EU climate target of 90% reduction in net greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 and announce an assessment of the LULUCF Regulation.

On 24 June 2025, the EU Council adopted its General Approach to the proposed forest monitoring framework, emphasising importance of a bottom-up approach national data, and the need for simplification and respect of subsidiarity principle.

The Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU organised a meeting for EU Forest Directors and one for EU Nature Directors, in Warsaw. CEPF representatives took part in both meetings.

On 25 March 2025, CEPF met with Jessica Roswall, Commissioner for environment, water resilience and competitive and circular economy to exchange on EU forest-related policies at the beginning of the new EU political mandate.

In ComENVI and ComAGRI of the European Parliament, the co-rapporteurs presented their draft report and MEPs tabled amendments on the legislative proposal on forest monitoring.

On 13 January 2025, the Environment and Agriculture Committees of the European Parliament held a joint public Hearing to discuss the European Commission's proposal on forest monitoring, titled “Forest Monitoring for resilient European Forests”. The panelists presented their views on the initiative and discussed current state and future strategies for monitoring Europe’s forests in the relation to the European Commission’s proposal.
