Bavaria's Forests: A Natural Fortress and Sustainable Asset

Covering approximately 2.56 million hectares, Bavaria is one of Germany's most densely forested regions, where forests cover a significant one-third of its territory. Nearly 57% of this extensive woodland is privately owned. These forests serve as a natural defense against various natural disasters such as avalanches, landslides, and floods. Additionally, they serve as a habitat for wildlife and offer recreational opportunities for Bavarian residents. With challenges posed by climate change, energy shortages, and environmental concerns, the responsible and sustainable utilization of wood as a renewable resource has emerged as a matter of practical necessity.

Familienbetriebe Land und Forst Bayern e.V.

The association was founded in 1949 as the “Association of Bavarian Landowners eV” and in the 2016 was renamed to its current name. The Familienbetriebe Land und Forst Bayern e.V. is a voluntary association of agricultural and forest land owners. The members of the association manage their properties sustainably and think generations in advance. Their main goal is to create added value for the society and to raise awareness for the concerns of family-run agricultural and forestry ownership. The Familienbetriebe Land und Forst Bayern e.V. is committed to protecting private property and strengthening the economic power of rural areas. Private property enables freedom, gives room for personal development and entrepreneurial initiative. Property deserves protection and the association together with its membership see their task in defending it.

In a constant dialogue with politics, economy, science and the public, the Familienbetriebe Land und Forst Bayern e.V. is committed to a responsible and generation-appropriate policy.
