On 20–21 October, more than 1,500 delegates from over 65 countries gathered in Dublin for the fifth Global Bioeconomy Summit. Tim Hartl attended on behalf of CEPF. Dozens of exhibitors were present, including several from the forest-based sector, and several workshops offered opportunities to exchange on aspects of bioeconomy of direct relevance to European forest owners.
Finalising the summit, Commissioner Jessika Roswall launched the Bio-based Europe Alliance. The Alliance shall connect actors along the bio-based value chain with the goal to send clearer market signals, lower investment uncertainty and unlock Europe’s bioeconomy potential. According to Commissioner Hansen, the Alliance, is a concrete step forward bringing farmers and foresters new market opportunities and diversification of income streams. CEPF will closely follow the development of the Alliance, its work in practice, and what role primary producers will play in it.
Further initiatives launched at the summit include Ireland’s launch of BioScale 2030, its first National Bioeconomy Strategy and a draft Global Bioeconomy Vision 2040 by the International Advisory Council for the Global Bioeconomy (IACGB) with a set of Dublin Goals opened for stakeholder input.
The summit was a great opportunity for CEPF to call for recognition of the role of forest owners and in the bioeconomy. It was also a chance to exchange views with colleagues from the European Bioeconomy Alliance (EUBA), who were present in Dublin.
