The European Conference on Small Forest Holdings was organised by the Horizon project SMURF and gathered over 200 participants across Europe to discuss on policy, financing, and management of small forest holdings.
In his keynote speech on the topic “The small private forest holdings sector: state of the art,” Luc Bouvarel stressed the critical role of small forest owners in delivering environmental, economic, and social benefits and the importance of recognising this diversity in EU forest-related policies and avoiding a one-size-fits-all approach. Furthermore, the session featured coordinated contributions from three key organisations on the following topics:
- CEPF (Luc Bouvarel, Vice-President):
Forest ownership structures and aims of forest owners’ advocacy in Europe - ELO (Algis Gaižutis, Board Member):
Importance of ownership rights, forest management and use of forests - COPA COGECA (Marko Mäki-Hakola, Chairman of the working party of forest):
Policies helping forest owners in the active use of forests
