EU Council Cyprus Presidency:
From 1 January to 30 June 2026, Cyprus will assume the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the second time, under the motto “An Autonomous Union. Open to the World.” Facing a Europe marked by geopolitical upheaval and complex challenges, the Cyprus Presidency aims to act as a responsible and honest broker, turning challenges into opportunities and ensuring that ambition is matched by action and tangible results.
While the programme does not include a dedicated forest-relatedactions, forest-related issues are integrated across broader goals such as climate action, biodiversity protection, and sustainable resource management.
A green and resilient Europe anchored in the bioeconomy
The Cyprus Presidency anchors its environmental work in the implementation of the European Green Deal, addressing climate policy, circular economy, and water resilience. Particular attention is given to the EU Bioeconomy Strategy, which integrates sustainable forest management, promoting responsible use of biological resources and innovation in forest-based industries. Cyprus will encourage political discussions on bioeconomy solutions that strengthen ecosystem resilience while supporting green growth and job creation.
