Meeting of EU Nature Directors

The Meeting of EU Nature Directors took place from 20-22 September, gathering Nature Directors from EU Member States and some stakeholders’ representatives, including Ms. Hélène Koch, CEPF Senior Policy Advisor.

The first day of the meeting covered three working sessions on :

  • nature restoration plans as a tool for integrating policies and delivering multiple ecosystem services;
  • financing biodiversity conservation and restoration in the EU; and
  • best practices in reconciling renewable energies and biodiversity conservation and pursuing a biodiversity-aligned transition to low-emissions energy.

On the second day of the meeting participants were taken to a guided filed trip on the restored areas in mountain ecosystems in Montes de Valsaín. Following this, participants could visit the Amphibian conservation program and the cultural heritage site of the Royal Sawmill of Valsaín.

Meeting of EU Forest Directors

The Meeting of EU Forest Directors took place from 18 to 20 October, gathering Forest Directors from EU Member States and some representatives of stakeholders in the forestry sector, including Ms. Fanny-Pomme Langue, CEPF’s Secretary General.

The first part of the meeting was dedicated to discussing on 3 topics:

  • Sustainable forest management and forest conservation: compatible principles in multifunctional forests
  • Communication on sustainable forest management and climate related risks
  • Practical implementation of the Regulation on deforestation-free products

 

Each topic was introduced by very valuable presentations by some Member States, Commission and stakeholders, including USSE’s Directeur Leire Salaberria, who provided inputs to the audience on forest wood products in the EU Forest Strategy and the importance of timber management and conservation.

On the second day of the meeting participants were taken to a guided filed trip to the Los Alcornocales natural park during which they could see concrete examples of and hear valuable presentations about Management of Quercus suber (Cork Oak), biodiversity conservation and rural development, cultural heritage and wildfire management.
