According to the European Commission, the aim of the "Closer-to-Nature Forestry" guidelines is to promote biodiversity-friendly and adaptive forest management, while the guidance on “Payment for Ecosystem Services” aims at presenting options to secure sources of financial income for the provision of ecosystem services.

At this stage, both documents are available only in English. A brochure version of the “Closer-to-Nature” guidelines is announced for the fourth quarter of 2023. Other language versions are set to follow in the first half of 2024.

Additionally, the European Commission published the „Guidelines on Member States' adaptation strategies and plans“ on 26 July.
