On 23 September 2025, the European Parliament’s Committees on Environment (ENVI) and Agriculture (AGRI) voted to reject the proposed EU regulation on a monitoring framework for resilient European forests.
126 MEPs took part of the vote and the outcome was 79 votes in favour of rejection and 47 against, no abstention. The decision overturns the compromise text that had been prepared by the co-rapporteurs of the two committees.
The proposal will now move forward to the Parliament’s Plenary for debate and a final vote. The Council of the EU already adopted its position in June 2025, calling for a streamlined approach with stronger reliance on national inventories.
