European forest owners welcome the rejection of a proposal for regulation on a monitoring framework for resilient European forests by a large majority of members of the Agriculture and Environment Committees of the European Parliament. This sends a clear message that the concerns voiced by European forest owners over the last two years have been heard.

CEPF Feedback on the Commission’s Proposal for the EU 2040 Climate Target

Forest owners strongly support the EU’s decarbonisation agenda and highlight the dual role of reducing dependence on fossil fuels while fostering a sustainable bioeconomy. CEPF stresses that active and sustainable forest management, supported by an enabling EU policy framework, will be essential to strengthen forest resilience, maintain Europe’s carbon sink capacity, and ensure forests continue to contribute meaningfully to climate mitigation and the EU’s strategic autonomy.
