European Forest Week was celebrated for the first time in 2008 and it offers a unique opportunity to raise the visibility of forest sector and to influence pan-European and global discussions related to forests.

The latest Commission report on forest fires reveals that wildfires destroyed nearly 178 000 ha of forests and land in the EU last year. While this is less than 1/6 of the area burnt in 2017, and less than the long-term average, more countries than ever suffered from large fires.
