The SUPERB project (Systemic solutions for upscaling of urgent ecosystem restoration for forest-related biodiversity and ecosystem services) is a €20 million project funded by the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under the EU Green Deal.

During SUPERB 2023 General Assembly, CEPF representative and AGDW national expert to CEPF, Mr Anton Burkhart, took part to the demo case field visit and the Advisory board meeting in the Aquitaine regions in France.

The field visit provided for an opportunity to discover the Aquitaine’s SUPERB demo area. Aquitaine is one of the warmest regions in France, and pine plantations are increasingly endangered by climate-mediated disturbances such as wind, forest fires and pest outbreaks. On this demo area of 20 000 ha, the SUPERB project aims at increasing forest resilience through a permanent green shield with a network of 10 km of broadleaved hedges along pine stands.
