On 9 November, CEPF attended to the second High Level Talk organised Forest Europe on “How Sustainable Forest Management Enhance Resilience”. This event was opened by German Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture, Cem Özdemir gathered EU and national Policy Makers, researchers,  and representatives of environmental organisations and forest managers. The first roundtable focused on SFM and resilience in pan-European countries to tackle climate and biodiversity crisis whereas the second one gathered inputs on Future-proofing SFM and resilience: experts’ perspectives on status quo and linkages. During this discussion, the role and work of forest owners was highlighted.

Take home messages of this event were published by the organisers. Forest owners are at the core of one of these messages:  “Private forest owners often face new and seemingly insurmountable challenges that may force them to abandon their land. Providing assistance and training to landowners needs to go beyond subsidies and regulatory frameworks; it is necessary to understand their values and objectives while developing policies and increasing awareness". This message resonates with the recently published manifesto of European Forest Owners which shares forest owners achievements, vision and commitments.
