The Forest Academy serves as a forum for EU decision-makers, providing a unique opportunity to connect, discuss and share insights into the vast potential that forests offer to society. This event emphasize the role of forests and the forest value chain in promoting a sustainable, circular bioeconomy and provides solutions for the green transition.

Over 30 representatives of different organizations such as: EU institutions, national ministers, stakeholder organizations, the media etc. attended this year’s event that took place in Finland from 20-22 September and was organized by Finnish Forest Association. CEPF was represented by its Policy Advisor, Dániel Komlós.

The program of the event integrated both research findings and practical measures within the forest sector.

Throughout three days, attendees delved into Finnish sustainable forest management know-how. A visit to a biorefinery in Äänekoski provided insights to the bioeconomy of the future and industrial symbiosis. The rapidly expanding palette of novel wood-based materials presented a promising outlook for the transition from fossil-based economy to the environmentally friendly, green one.

Additionally, participants had the unique opportunity to explore the recently inaugurated high school building in Tuusula, the largest wooden building in Finland today. The substantial use of sustainably sourced wood in this project serves as a source of inspiration for future construction projects focusing on long-lasting wood products.
