First CRCF carbon farming methodologies clear Parliament vote

With the objection rejected in parliamentary plenary, the first certification methodologies for carbon farming under the Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming (CRCF) Regulation move a step closer to entering into force.

EC high-level policy dialogue on the role of forest-based value chains in the EU’s climate transition

CEPF President Sven-Erik Hammar outlined European forest owners’ priorities at a European Commission high-level policy dialogue on forests and forest-based value chain in the EU’s climate transition, chaired by Commissioner Hoekstra. CEPF called for realistic and flexible post-2030 climate targets, a voluntary Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming Certification Framework, and policies supporting active, sustainable forest management to strengthen forest resilience, support the bioeconomy and reduce fossil dependence.

Forest research moves from strategy to action at three key events

Under the Forest Momentum banner, two events took place in Brussels: the MoniFun monitoring workshop and EUFORE’s final stakeholder event. The FOREST Partnership then held its launch event in Helsinki. CEPF participated in all three events and spoke nn panels at the MoniFun workshop and the Partnership launch.

Council sets negotiating position on faster environmental assessments, including refernce to forestry works

The Council has agreed its negotiating position on the proposed regulation on speeding up environmental assessments. Its position on Article 8 covers forestry management and fire prevention works.

Ireland takes over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union

On 1 July 2026, Ireland assumed the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union, taking over from Cyprus for the next six months. Under the motto "Ní neart go cur le chéile – Strength with unity", the Irish Presidency has set out a programme centred on three interconnected priorities: competitiveness, values and security.

Council adopts Recommendation on integrated wildfire risk management

The Council adopted on 29 June its Recommendation on integrated wildfire risk management. While the Recommendation is not legally binding, Member States are invited to implement the measures, in accordance with their national circumstances, risk profiles, and governance systems.
