On the Presidency programme, forest-related EU policies on Sweden’s agenda are the Nature Restoration Law, the new EU Framework for Forest Monitoring and Strategic Plans, certification of carbon removals, the Packaging Directive and the legislation on seeds and plant and forest reproductive material. Regarding these. In addition the Presidency will monitor the implementation of the EU’s Forest Strategy and ensure that the balance between the three dimensions of sustainability is observed.

During the six months, forest-related events will be organised by and under the auspices of the Presidency:

  • On 1 – 2 February 2023, linked to the Swedish EU presidency, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in collaboration with the Swedish Forest Agency organises a workshop on a new legal framework for forest monitoring and strategic plans in Uppsala, Sweden
  • On 20 February 2023 a conference on circular bioeconomy will be organised by Swedish Parliament under the auspices of the Committee on Environment and Agriculture
  • On 27 – 28 February 2023, the Presidency will organise a conference on bioeconomy in Stockholm, Sweden
  • On 15 – 17 May 2023, the Presidency will organise the Meeting of EU Forest Directors in Skellefteå, Sweden
  • On 24 – 26 May 2023, the Presidency will organise the Meeting of EU Nature Directors in Färnebofjärden & Stockholm, Sweden
