Council adopts Recommendation on integrated wildfire risk management

The Council adopted on 29 June its Recommendation on integrated wildfire risk management. While the Recommendation is not legally binding, Member States are invited to implement the measures, in accordance with their national circumstances, risk profiles, and governance systems.

Following the adoption of the EU Integrated Wildfire Risks Strategy in late March 2026, CEPF was invited to take part in several events discussing the next steps.

European forest based sector highly welcomes the upcoming 10th Forest Europe Ministerial Conference and support the Stockholm Ministerial Declaration “FOREST EUROPE – Sustainable Forests for Resilient Societies” and its Annex, to be adopted by the European Ministers responsible for forests and forestry.

EU Nature and Forest Directors’ meetings under the Cypriot Presidency

EU Nature and Forest Directors met in Paphos at the invitation of the Cypriot Presidency to discuss the implementation of the Nature Restoration Law, and climate change challenges for forest ecosystems, . Field visits showcased the Natura 2000 site of Ayios Georgios islet and Cedar Valley's fire prevention. CEPF representatives took part in both meetings.

Managed forests, lower wildfire risks - Turning proven knowledge into operational practices

Wildfire risks are rising across Europe. CEPF position paper calls for a unified yet flexible EU approach built on active Sustainable Forest Management. By reducing fuel loads, strengthening forest-based bioeconomy, aligning policies, and enhancing preparedness and coordination, Europe can turn proven knowledge into real action on the ground and build landscapes that are more resilient to wildfire.

European forest owners and managers statement on the review of the EU Forest Strategy for 2030

As the work of the European Commission (EC) on the review of the EU Forest Strategy for 2030 (EUFS) is in progress, and ahead of the joint meeting organised by the EC on 10 December on this topic, the undersigned organisations, representing European forest owners and managers, would like to call for the review process to go beyond assessing progress towards objectives set in the past. It needs also to assess present relevance and usefulness of actions not yet implemented, and whether further actions are needed to maintain multifunctional and climate-resilient forests through sustainable and active forest management.
