From 30 May to 3 June, SUPERB held meetings in Sibiu, Romania focused on further defining the goals of this important research project on European forest restoration.

On 7 – 9 June 2022, CEPF members and secretariat gathered in Bled, Slovenia for the yearly General Assembly. After two years of online meetings, CEPF members from all over Europe were finally able to meet each other in person.

FAO has published its 2022 report on The State of the World’s Forests. It explores three pathways for forests to contribute to a green recovery and building inclusive, resilient and sustainable economies in a post pandemic world.

The Member States have agreed on general approaches to bioenergy rules in RED III (renewable energy directive) as well as to LULUCF (land use, land use change and forestry regulation).

The European Commission published its proposal for a Regulation on Nature Restoration on 22 June 2022 with the main aim to restore degraded ecosystems.

The winners of this year’s Natura2000 Awards and LIFE Awards were announced in May 2022. This year is special for Natura 2000, as it marks the 30 year anniversary of adoption of the Habitats Directive and thus creation of the Natura 2000 network and LIFE fund.

The Seoul Forest Declaration was adopted as conclusion of the XV World Forestry Congress. The Declaration encourages actions for a green, healthy, and resilient future with forests.

On 12 and 13 July 2022, European Parliament committees adopted reports on the EU Forest Strategy for 2030, on the Proposal for a Regulation on Deforestation and Forest Degradation, and on amending the Renewable Energy Directive.

CEPF participated in the Forest Academy for EU Decision Makers which brought together 35 participants in the last week of June in 2022 in Sweden. The event was organised by the Finnish Forest Association and the Swedish Forest Agency.

European forest owners express their full solidarity with all people affected by the ongoing terrible droughts and wildfires raging across Europe.
