CEPF General Assembly 2026

CEPF's 2026 General Assembly brought together participants from across Europe in Reims, France, for three days of fruitful discussions, important decisions and exchange. Marking the CEPF's 30th anniversary, the Assembly also celebrated three decades of cooperation while looking ahead to the challenges and opportunities facing Europe's forests and forest owners.
Ireland takes over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union
2 July 2026
On 1 July 2026, Ireland assumed the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union, taking over from Cyprus for the next six months. Under the motto "Ní neart go cur le chéile – Strength with unity", the Irish Presidency has set out a programme centred on three interconnected priorities: competitiveness, values and security.
EU Nature and Forest Directors’ meetings under the Cypriot Presidency

EU Nature and Forest Directors met in Paphos at the invitation of the Cypriot Presidency to discuss the implementation of the Nature Restoration Law, and climate change challenges for forest ecosystems, . Field visits showcased the Natura 2000 site of Ayios Georgios islet and Cedar Valley's fire prevention. CEPF representatives took part in both meetings.
Wildfire risks management in focus

Following the adoption of the EU Integrated Wildfire Risks Strategy in late March 2026, CEPF was invited to take part in several events discussing the next steps.
Council adopts Recommendation on integrated wildfire risk management
29 June 2026
The Council adopted on 29 June its Recommendation on integrated wildfire risk management. While the Recommendation is not legally binding, Member States are invited to implement the measures, in accordance with their national circumstances, risk profiles, and governance systems.
