CEPF General Assembly 2025

From May 26 to 28, 2025, the picturesque village of Peccioli in Tuscany, Italy, hosted the annual General Assembly of the Confederation of European Forest Owners (CEPF). Generously organized by CEPF Italian member, Confagricoltura, the event brought together over 50 participants from 23 countries across Europe for three days of dialogue, decision-making, cultural exchange and insightful visits.

European forest owners see a potential in nature credits for rewarding biodiversity safeguard, nature conservation and maintenance, and opening new income opportunities for forest owners. However, such a framework needs to be grounded, inclusive, and rooted in reality.

Forest and Nature Directors’ meetings under the Polish Presidency

The Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU organised a meeting for EU Forest Directors and one for EU Nature Directors, in Warsaw. CEPF representatives took part in both meetings.

From 1 July to 31 December 2025, Denmark takes over the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Under the headline “A Strong Europe in a Changing World,” the Danish Presidency sets an ambitious agenda focused on security, resilience, competitiveness, and the green transition.

EU nature credits roadmap: a welcome start with lots of work ahead

CEPF recognises the potential of nature credits to reward biodiversity conservation and maintenance, and open new income opportunities for forest owners. It is crucial that the multifunctional role of forests, as promisingly highlighted in the roadmap, remains central in the framework.

In view of our concerns about the Regulation’s practical applicability, lack of proportionality, substantial administrative burden, legal uncertainties and diversion of commodity flows likely to be generated, we stress the urgent need for a more targeted, risk-based, and practicable implementation, going beyond what is provided by the current Regulation.
Joint roundtable meeting on The Role of Forests & Forestry in the Future EU Bioeconomy

On 12 June 2025, forest-based stakeholders, policymakers, and experts gathered in Brussels to discuss the vital role of forests and forestry in advancing a sustainable EU bioeconomy. With contributions from EU institutions and sector leaders, the roundtable highlighted how forest-based solutions can drive the green transition, support rural development, and contribute to the upcoming EU Bioeconomy Strategy.
Increasing calls for revision of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)
