On 1 July 2021, Slovenia took over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from Portugal. In its 6-months Presidency Programme, Slovenia announces several actions regarding forest-related EU policies.

End of June 2021, two important steps were taken for future Rural Development. On 25 June, the Council and the EU Parliament reached an agreement on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and on 30 June, the Commission published its Long-term Vision for Rural Areas.

On 14 July, the Commission published the Fit for 55 Package, a set of 12 revisions and initiatives linked to the EU Green Deal’s 55 % emission reduction target by 2030 compared to 1990.

CEPF feedback focuses on how EU forests contribute to the deployment of a sustainable bioeconomy as well as to the need for coherence and synergies between the Bioeconomy Strategy and other EU policy developments, in particular the European Green Deal.
