We therefore welcome the timely initiative of EU Member States to recognize and include sustainable bioeconomy to the work programme of the next European Commission.

EUFORE Project: Strategic R&I agenda (SRIA)

The European project EUFORE is currently working on a strategic R&I agenda for forestry and the forest-based sector (SRIA), which will be used for the establishment of a future European partnership on Forest and Forestry.

To this aim, the project is running a stakeholder engagement survey to collect the views and opinion of stakeholders regarding the content of the future partnerships strategic research agenda.

Joint Statement | European primary producers are asking for practical solutions and postponement of the EUDR

Since the publication of the Commission's proposal of the EU Deforestation and Forest Degradation Regulation (EUDR) on 17 November 2021, primary producers have supported the objective of the EUDR. However, it has become obvious that key parts of the final text that remained unclear are to be interpreted so strictly that their implementation will lead to a high level of administrative burden and costs. It will therefore not be possible to implement the EUDR in practice.

Biodiversity promotion in Nordic family forest management

The Bureau of Nordic Family Forestry (NSF) held its yearly thematic event in Brussels on March 20th, dedicated to voluntary measures for biodiversity promotion in Nordic family forest management. Marko Mäki-Hakola, NSF Chair and MTK Forestry Director welcomed 45 attendees who represented all paths of forest policy: from EU institutions through member state diplomatic corps to farmers’ and foresters’ national organisations.
