The European Innovation Partnership ’Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability’ (EIP-AGRI) is looking for temporary consultants for a number of workshops, seminars and Focus Groups, and main facilitators for workshops and seminars on a range of topics.

The latest Commission report on forest fires reveals that wildfires destroyed nearly 178 000 ha of forests and land in the EU last year. While this is less than 1/6 of the area burnt in 2017, and less than the long-term average, more countries than ever suffered from large fires.

European Forest Week was celebrated for the first time in 2008 and it offers a unique opportunity to raise the visibility of forest sector and to influence pan-European and global discussions related to forests.

On 18 November 2019, the European Forest-Based Industries presented their vision “Forest-based Industries 2050: a vision for sustainable choices in a climate-friendly future”.

In the European Union, forests are a key resource for improving quality of life and job creation and thereby keeping our rural communities alive and thriving. Good dissemination of forest innovations, through regional cooperation, in the EU is thus essential.

CEPF warmly welcomes Maja Drča who joined the CEPF Secretariat as a Policy Officer from December 2019 until the end of June 2020.

On 27 November 2019, the annual conference of the Forest-based Sector Technology Platform (FTP) took place in Espoo, Finland. The highlight of the conference was the launching of the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda 2030 of the European Forest-based Sector.

CEPF welcomes the Council Conclusions on the European Commission Progress Report on the implementation of the EU Forest Strategy and on a new strategic framework for forests, and highlights the importance of having an EU strategy for forests as a part of the European Green Deal.

The European Commission recently released European Green Deal with a set of policy guidelines that will bring the EU closer towards its transition to a climate-neutral continent by 2050. This Communication encompasses several initiatives which are key for the EU forest sector.

The Confederation of European Forest Owners (CEPF) welcomes the EC initiative to publish the EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2030 as part of the European Green Deal and the consideration about negative effects of climate change on species and habitats.

On 21 January, EU forests' representatives organised an event: “Seeing the forest for the trees, the multifunctional role of EU forests” in the European Parliament. Hosted by MEP Sarvamaa, it addressed the contribution of EU forests to EU’s climate and biodiversity objectives.
